Disclosure: We build Rynex, one of the products in this list. Every vendor-written "best of" puts itself first and hopes you won't notice; we'd rather you notice. All third-party pricing and ratings below were pulled from public pricing pages and Shopify App Store listings on August 14, 2026, and we link the sources so you can check us.
Shopify still doesn't ship a customer-facing AI shopping assistant. Sidekick works for the merchant inside the admin, Shopify Magic writes product descriptions, and Shopify Inbox suggests replies a human must approve — in English only. Meanwhile Shopify's own numbers show why merchants are shopping for one anyway: in Q1 2026 Shopify reported AI-originated traffic to its stores grew roughly 8× year-over-year, and AI-originated orders about 13×. Shoppers are already buying conversationally; the storefront experience is up to third-party apps.
This comparison covers the eight tools we'd actually shortlist, what each costs, and — because every tool sounds identical in its own marketing — what their customers complain about in one-star reviews.

Quick picks. Selling on a budget, or you also care about AI visibility: Rynex. Enterprise Shopify store that wants proactive behavioral targeting: Rep AI. You mainly need a support suite with live chat and an AI on top: Tidio. You live in your helpdesk: Gorgias. Cheapest possible ticket deflection: Willdesk.
How We Compared
Four questions separate these tools far better than feature checklists:
- Does it sell or does it deflect? Catalog awareness, real product recommendations, and add-to-cart from the conversation — or FAQ answers and ticket routing.
- What does the meter count? Conversations, visitors, resolutions, or tickets. The same store can pay 5–10× more under one model than another.
- What do the one-star reviews say? Marketing pages agree with themselves; angry customers are more informative.
- What happens at the limit? Some tools cut service mid-month when you hit a cap; some upsell; some keep running.
1. Rynex — Selling Plus AI Visibility, One Metric
Rynex (that's us) is an AI shopping assistant with a second product bolted to its side: a GEO layer that tracks and improves how often the store gets recommended by ChatGPT-, Gemini- and Perplexity-style models. The assistant connects to the live catalog, recommends products, answers comparison and policy questions, handles "where is my order?", and adds items to the cart from the conversation — variant-aware on Shopify and WooCommerce. Every conversation is tied to orders, so the dashboard reports assistant-influenced revenue rather than "engagement".
Pricing is one metric with no overage cutoff: a free plan covers 100 conversations/month, and paid plans run $39 / $129 / $279 per month by conversation volume. Hitting a limit never turns the assistant off mid-month. The GEO layer is an add-on (from +$99/month), and there's a free AI-visibility audit that works without an account.
Where it wins
- Sells and attributes: add-to-cart in chat plus per-journey revenue attribution
- Single-metric pricing, free plan, no mid-month cutoffs
- Only tool here that bundles AI-search visibility (GEO) with the assistant
- Works on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom storefronts; follows the shopper's language automatically
Where it doesn't
- Young product with a small public review base — judge it by the trial, not by social proof
- Assistant-first: no human live-chat seats or omnichannel inbox (email/WhatsApp)
- If you need a full helpdesk, you'll pair it with one
2. Rep AI — Behavioral AI for Bigger Shopify Stores
Rep AI is the most distinctive product on this list: its Behavioral AI watches session signals to spot hesitation and opens the conversation proactively, instead of waiting for a click on the bubble. It recommends products, guides checkout, and hands off to live chat. The company has raised $14.4M — the latest round in May 2026 with Zendesk as a strategic investor — and its Shopify rating is strong (4.7, 92 reviews, 96% five-star).
The costs are enterprise-shaped: per-visitor pricing starts at $104/month for 10,000 visitors, with $12 per extra thousand. You pay for traffic, not for usage — a high-traffic store with modest chat adoption pays for every visitor anyway. It's also effectively Shopify-only: WooCommerce support has been "rolling out this year" and hasn't shipped as of August 2026. The single one-star review (Feb 2026) describes service being cut mid-annual-plan at a usage threshold with a ~$500/month upgrade as the only path — worth asking about before signing an annual deal.
Honest take: If you're on Shopify, have real traffic, and want the most sophisticated proactive triggering on the market, Rep is the strongest pick on this list — including against us. If you're on WooCommerce, multi-platform, or price-sensitive, it isn't in the running yet.
3. Tidio (Lyro AI) — the Mature Support Suite With a Real AI
Tidio is the incumbent: live chat, Flows automation, an omnichannel inbox, and the Lyro AI agent, with 4.8/1,250 reviews on Shopify and 70k+ WordPress installs. Lyro is genuinely commerce-capable — product recommendations with add-to-cart on Shopify and WooCommerce, live order status via Shopify's Admin API — and Tidio claims about 67% query automation.
The catch is the meter — three of them. Billable conversations, Lyro conversations, and Flows visitors are counted separately, each with its own limit (pricing page: Starter $24.17/mo, Growth from $49.17/mo, Plus from $300/mo; Lyro as an add-on from $32.50/mo for 50 conversations; removing Tidio branding costs another $16.67/mo). Recent one-star reviews on the Shopify listing include billing disputes, auto-upgrades that don't downgrade, and AI quality degrading over time. One more thing worth knowing: Tidio markets 45+ languages, but the list of officially supported Lyro reply languages in its help center is much shorter (around a dozen at our last check — we couldn't verify the current list directly). If you sell in a language outside the Western European mainstays, test before you buy.
Honest take: The most complete support suite here, and the safest "nobody got fired for buying it" choice. Budget for the real total (plan + Lyro + branding removal), and model what happens when any of the three meters runs out.
4. Gorgias AI — for Stores That Live in Their Helpdesk
Gorgias is one of the biggest CX platforms in Shopify-land — by its own count it powers 40% of the top 1,500 Shopify brands — with an AI Agent and a shopping-assistant capability on top of a unified inbox (email, chat, social, voice, SMS). Entry is cheap ($10/mo for 50 tickets) but the AI-era plans climb fast ($60 / $360 / $900). It has the largest review base in this list (616) and the lowest rating (4.2); one-star themes are billing and contract disputes and off-brand AI replies. DNA is support: if your bottleneck is ticket volume, it belongs on your shortlist; if it's conversion, it doesn't.
5. Zipchat AI — Sales-Focused, Spotless Rating, Quota Math Required
Zipchat is a sales-first AI chatbot with order tracking, product recommendations, cart-recovery flows and WhatsApp/Instagram channels. Its Shopify rating is a perfect 5.0 across 158 reviews — the best on this list. Pricing is per AI reply (free 120/mo, then $49/500, $129/1,500, $249/3,000), which scales directly with traffic; model your reply volume before committing. Review base is still smaller than the incumbents'.
6. Wizybot — if the Job Is WhatsApp and Instagram
Wizybot (4.6, 143 reviews) is an omnichannel AI inbox: WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, email, live chat, with AI product recommendations and comment automation. Free plan is 30 AI messages; Basic is $69.99/mo for 1,250 messages with $0.07/message overage. Strongest for WhatsApp- and Instagram-heavy stores; on-site selling (add-to-cart) is not the focus.
7. Willdesk — the Budget Helpdesk With AI
Willdesk by Channelwill (4.8, 354 reviews) is the cheapest credible entry: free plan with 20 conversations, then $16.90/mo, with GPT-4-based automation for order tracking, returns and address changes. It's a helpdesk with AI, not a shopping assistant — no in-chat selling — but for pure ticket deflection on a budget it's hard to argue with.
8. Juphy — Simplest Path to a Site Sales Bot
Juphy (4.8, 31 reviews) is a ChatGPT-based site chatbot focused on product questions, sizing, shipping and recommendations, from $19/mo. Small proof base and site-widget-only scope, but the lowest-friction way to test whether conversational selling moves your numbers at all.
Also Worth Knowing
- Octane AI (4.9, 184 reviews, from $50/mo) is a quiz platform, not a chatbot — a different, sometimes better, answer to the same "help shoppers choose" problem.
- Intercom Fin ($0.99 per resolution + seats from $39/mo) brings enterprise-grade AI, but its DNA is support and the per-resolution + per-seat stack gets expensive for small merchants; its Shopify-specific review base is tiny (16 reviews).
- Chatbase (from $40/mo) is a strong horizontal agent platform whose Shopify app only launched in January 2026 — commerce flows need assembly.
- LimeChat (from $199/mo) is WhatsApp-first and strongest in India.
FAQ
Does Shopify have a built-in AI shopping assistant for customers?
No. Sidekick and Magic are merchant-facing; Inbox's AI drafts replies for human approval, in English only. Customer-facing conversational selling on your storefront comes from third-party apps — that's the entire reason this list exists.
What's the difference between an AI shopping assistant and an AI support chatbot?
A support chatbot deflects tickets. A shopping assistant sells: catalog awareness, recommendations, comparisons, add-to-cart. Check which metric the vendor brags about — tickets deflected or revenue attributed — and you'll know which one you're buying.
How much should I budget in 2026?
Entry paid plans: ~$17–49/mo for most tools; $104+/mo for Rep AI; $199+/mo for LimeChat. Watch the pricing model more than the sticker: per-visitor billing charges you for traffic that never chats, per-resolution billing charges per successful answer, per-conversation billing charges for actual usage.
Can an AI chatbot actually add products to the cart?
Rynex and Tidio (Lyro) can; Rep AI recommends products and guides shoppers to checkout; most others link out to product pages. If conversion is the goal, verify variant-aware add-to-cart in a real trial on your own catalog.
Do any of these help me get recommended by ChatGPT or Perplexity?
Only Rynex bundles that (GEO layer: AI mention-rate tracking, competitor benchmarks, site fixes). It's a separate discipline from on-site chat — our guide to generative engine optimization covers the fundamentals, and you can measure where you stand today with our free audit.
